We are always up for a Chic-ago Fashion evening! This summer, on August 15th, Medici Museums organized an evening of fashion experts, icons and history in collaboration with the Chicago History Museum and the Waldorf Astoria.
Skändal team dressed up for the occasion. The dress code from Katie, owner of Skändal, was: "Get your hair done in a Audrey Hepburn French twist".
This two-part event started at the Chicago History Museum, where some of the city’s top fashion bloggers lead scavenger hunts and flash tours of Mainbocher.
Horst P. Horst took his famous photograph of the Mainbocher Corset in the Paris Vogue studios In August 1939, on the eve of the Second World War.
Among the Chicago fashion bloggers present at the event, there were The Petite Diaries, Stile.Foto.Cibo., The Color Palette, and Hasty Book List. I was so happy to meet some of them, as I already read their blogs from time to time! I can't wait to meet the other ones, soon I hope!
We all gathered in small groups to make the tour of Mainbocher and answer the questions about his life, each team competing with each other.
But wait, who is Mainbocher by the way? He is considered as “America's First Couturier,” a twentieth-century tastemaker who dressed royalty and celebrities, inspired Dior’s “new look”—and put the chic in Chicago.
At the end of the tour, each team had to design a dress in 3D. So much fun!
Part two took us to the Waldorf Astoria’s soon-to-launch Margeaux Brasserie, the brainchild of celebrity chef Michael Mina.
This fashion-forward hotel, with its Dior-inspired tiled lobby floor and Chanel-influenced chandelier, was the perfect backdrop for a beauty bar, complimentary cocktails from beverage partner Ketel One, and featured hors d'oeuvres by Margeaux Brasserie.
We ended up our Chic-ago Fashion event with cocktails, a nice dinner with the team, and a sweet treat at the cupcake ATM, and went back home full of inspiration for our next collections!
